How long have you been practicing Bikram Yoga?

About 14 months

What was your life/body like before you started practicing Bikram Yoga?

I was not over weight but probably not in the best shape even though I worked out at the gym and played softball. My body was sore and hurt all the time from sport injuries.  I have had back & knee problems for many, many years.

What motivated you to take your first class?

I had seen many types of Doctors for the pain and tried many different remedies, but nothing seems to really help.  I choose not to depend on drugs to make the pain go away.   I have friends that told me I should try yoga and that it really would help heal.

I figured I had nothing to lose.  I told myself and my husband Randy I would give it the 30 days since I signed up for the unlimited one month. Now, it's 14 months later and I won’t be leaving any time soon.

How often do you practice?

5-6 days a week.

How has your life/body changed since you started practicing?

I don’t hurt like I use to.  My body is beginning to heal itself (or as much as   universe will allow).  I know it will take more time to heal the many old injuries I have, but I feel so much better.  My cholesterol level has dropped 21+ points since I stared practicing.  I gave up my 2 diet-coke a day habit with my first yoga class….now I only crave water.  My clothes are fitting much looser which is not bad either.

Is there anything else?

There are good days and bad days but you have to just keep pushing thru and working your best in each class.  The phrase “every day your body is different” is really true.  I have a very competitive nature so it’s hard not to be frustrated when I don’t think I am doing my best.……I’m learning to accept today’s class as long as I know I gave it my best.  Thanks to all the wonderful teachers and their words of encouragement because it really helps keep you going some days….see you in class!
