When Suzann asked me to be the "student of the month" I thought that my quiet nature didn't hide me enough. But, then, I realized that the borderline obsessive compulsive in me  is what alerted them that I was in the room. I always get to the room 15 minutes early, go to the 3rd row, 2 spaces in, on the left side of the room. I know, there is medication to cure this; I just can't figure out why anyone would want to be cured. It's so pronounced that one day , I got to the room 15 minutes early as I always do, and Carmen was already in my place, and she was the only one in the room. So what did I do? I put my mat down right next to her, 3rd row, 2 and 1/2 spaces in, on the left side of the room. But, the good news is, Bikram Yoga has cured me; I can now go to any space in the room........well at least when someone is in my usual space.

My son, who takes yoga at a "hot but less intense establishment", talked me into starting Bikram Yoga. After about 25 years of 50 to 70 miles a week of running my knees were so bad I could no longer run. I started Bikram June 26, 2010. December 24, 2010, I did my 180th class in 180 days. I even bought the Bikram CD and did it the 8 days I was in Mexico, even heated the room up. Which reminds me, I need to get Stacey to add that to my log.
I remember the first day I was in class, I thought I was in decent shape. I had been working out my whole life and, as a Dallas Police Lieutenant, working my entire 29 years in South Dallas, I thought, I can do this Yoga, no problem. My first class,  I was so spent half way through class that Stacey had to help me grab my feet for the Bow Pose. I was a mess. As she stepped over my limp, lifeless body and walked back to the center of the room I heard the words I will never forget, "Yoga Smooga". Since then, Suzann has taught me to breathe through my nose and not my mouth, mostly, and to stop wiping sweat away constantly, "Dude, you have got to stop wiping your sweat all the time and relax, breathe". I stopped cold turkey.  All of the instructors have been so helpful from the start.

Bikram Yoga is more challenging than anything I have ever done. I wish that I had started 25 years ago.
